Brett Ballantini:

September swoons have become an Ozzie trademark

…Here are the dirty details:

2004 – White Sox go 17-12 in September, swept by Minnesota Twins.
2005 – White Sox go 17-12, swept by Los Angeles Angels and see lead shrink to 1 1/2 games before running off five wins to end the season and 16 of 17 to end the season as World Series champs.
2006 – White Sox go 12-16, including a sweep by the Oakland A’s.
2007 – White Sox go 15-12 and avoid a sweep but finish at 72-90 and in fourth place.
2008 – White Sox go 12-15 in September in what becomes a war of attrition with the fading Twins. The White Sox won three straight games to end the season as Central champs, but lost five straight, including being swept out of first place on September 25 by the Twins to create such dire straits.
2009 – White Sox go 13-14 and are swept by the Twins.
2010 – White Sox go 14-13 and are swept by the Twins and Tigers, essentially eliminating them from the division race.
2011 – White Sox are 5-12 and will have to go 10-1 in the home stretch to finish better than .500 for the month. Two sweeps by Detroit nailed the coffin shut on the 2011 season.

Seems like September is sweeps month in the south side…

Sox relievers Shane Lindsay and Addison Reed make memorable first trip to bullpen

Kenny Williams: Addison Reed to be called up only if the Sox are in contention [UPDATE]

Besides the close to sure call-ups of Shane Lindsay, Eduardo Escobar, and Hector Santiago before tomorrow’s game Kenny is thinking about calling up Addison Reed BUT:

Manager Kenny Williams said this week that he is prepared to recall [Addison] Reed only if the White Sox are in contention. It’s possible that Williams might wait to make a decision on Reed until he knows where the team stands after this weekend’s series against the Tigers.

One move Williams doesn’t seem prepared to make is to call up outfielder Jordan Danks, the brother of pitcher John Danks, who will start in the series opener Friday. Williams believes the White Sox have enough outfield coverage at this time.

What about Lastings Milledge? He’s hitting .291/.361/.431/.802.

UPDATE: The Sox called-up Reed, Lindsay and Escobar.

BTW, Sickels is giving a B+ grade to Reed. /UPDATE

Other White Sox links: Ozzie Guillen is rather a popular topic.

Mark Gonzales:

Teams can expand their 25-man rosters Sept. 1. Among the Sox minor leaguers who might be considered for a promotion are outfielder Dayan Viciedo, infielder Eduardo Escobar and pitchers Gregory Infante, Shane Lindsay, Hector Santiago and Addison Reed. Viciedo left Triple-A Charlotte’s game Wednesday at Norfolk after 3 1/2 innings because of an undisclosed injury.

From tonight’s AAA-Charlotte opponent:

UPDATE: X-rays were negative. Viciedo is day-to-day.

Ballantini @ CSN:

“Me and Alex, we’ve been as bad as you could possibly be, and if we’re doing half of what we normally do, we’re not even talking about [struggling offensively],” Dunn said, then issuing a promise that could but a catch in the South Side faithful’s throats. “Me and Alex talked about it, and we’re putting it all on us in the second half, basically.”

I’m so glad that’s over! Phew!

Yeah, I wish…

Other White Sox links: James looks at Phil Humber’s loss on Thursday’s game, same thing for J.J., Kenny Williams says to the Sox to lighten up, (yeah, they’re taking it too seriously…), and Tom Sorensen at the  Charlotte Observer has a cool article on Charlotte’s Shane Lindsay.

[Shane] Lindsay, meanwhile, has impressed coaches and teammates with good stuff and good command. He throws a fastball, curve and changeup and is adapting well to the “slider-cutter’’ Cooper has him working on.
