Baseball America’s draft database reports 22nd round draft pick RHP Blake Drake has signed with the Sox. He was assigned to Great Falls:

Yet another long-armed hurler is Blake Drake, a 6-7 former Indiana State star who was selected in the 22nd round of this year’s draft.” Drake has some different arm action that will surprise some people, I think,” said Drahman. “He’s a little sneaky, but he gets it up there it seems like, too.”

Here’s a 2009 scouting report from perfectgame.org:

Blake Drake is a Col RHP with a 6’7”, 185 lb. frame from Louisville, KY. Drake has a projectable frame and sat 88-91 this outing. He is a little raw but really projects as he continues to refine his craft. He showed a good slider to go with his upper 80’s to low 90’s fastball. He played at Wabash Valley this spring.

Here are his College Stats:

2011 4.78 1-5 26-4 0 0/3 10 49.0 50 28 26 21 37 8 0 2 190 .263 6 12 1 0 2

Drake was in Wabash Valley Community College for a couple years:

FutureSox reviews the 2010 Birmingham Barons

Jim Gallagher ended up being named the Barons team MVP for 2010.  Deservedly so, as he led the team in most offensive categories.  I’ve already stated before that I see him as a Ross Gload type if he were to make it to the majors.  He certainly is passionate enough to put forth the effort to get there.  I expect him to be in Charlotte for 2011.

Anthony Carter was named Barons pitcher of the year after having a fantastic run as a closer.  Hopefully he can build on that and put himself into consideration as a future big league reliever.  Deunte Heath pitched excellently for the Barons in relief, striking out 84 in 57.2 innings.  The White Sox made a good call giving him a second chance.  Both Carter and Heath should be in Charlotte in 2011.

Gallagher (25 years old): .590 PA, 292/.390/.425/.815, 74 BB / 89 K, .339 BABIP, .361 wOBA
Carter (24)
: 57.1 IP, 22 BB / 58 K, 3.92 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 3.91 FIP, .282 BABIP
Heath (25): 57.2 IP, 32 BB / 84 K, 3.12 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 3.23 FIP, .369 BABIP

Stats for other Sox prospects.
