Rogers:

The Sox could trade Bobby Jenks for prospects to help facilitate a deal if they decide they have the appetite for Prince Fielder or Adam Dunn.

Would these “prospects” be able to play baseball Phil?

Bobby Jenks | Chicago White Sox

The Comments: As expected, Jenks’ luck has started to improve and so to have his numbers. His ERA is down to 4.39 (xFIP 2.70), although his BABIP is still high at .405. He was the hottest reliever this past week and went 4-for-4 in save opportunities with six Ks, one walk and one run allowed.

Bobby Jenks and J.J. Putz have been scouted extensively

Levine:

White Sox general manger Kenny Williams is ready to discuss trades…. Many teams have asked White Sox officials if bullpen pieces like closer Bobby Jenks and setup man J.J. Putz are available. Both pitchers have been scouted extensively by the Phillies over the last 30 days.

Cowley:

The one player that has drawn serious interest is closer Bobby Jenks. Not only because of his improvement on the field — eight of his last nine appearances have been scoreless — but there is some economic control. Jenks is arbitration-eligible in 2011 before becoming a free agent in 2012.

White Sox are open for business

Buster Olney via MLBTR:

Heard this from multiple executives: The White Sox have made it clear they are open for business, and ready to trade off parts … from what has been a very disappointing team. The perception of other teams is that Paul Konerko is available right now, and … as we know, Chicago GM Ken Williams is a deal-maker,someone who will move quickly — as he did with the Contreras and Thome deals last fall.

Other players mentioned by MLBTR: A.J. Pierzynski, Mark Buehrle, Bobby Jenks, J.J. Putz, Scott Linebrink, Tony Pena, Matt Thornton, Andruw Jones, Freddy Garcia, Mark Kotsay, Omar Vizquel, Ramon Castro.

“A decent return” for Bobby Jenks?

Jayson Stark:

As the White Sox drift out of the AL Central race, it’s hard not to wonder if GM Kenny Williams will listen to offers on any of his starting pitchers. But longtime Williams watchers would be shocked if he deals anyone other than replaceable bullpen parts and possibly Paul Konerko.”The thing you have to remember about Kenny is, he always expects to have a good team,” said one rival GM. “If he doesn’t think he can win this year, he still expects to win next year. So why would he move his [top four] starters? I don’t see him doing that. He’ll move a free agent, or bullpen guys he thinks are overpriced, because those guys are replaceable. But he can’t replace a Gavin Floyd or a [Mark] Buehrle or a [John] Danks. So I don’t see that one.”

Meanwhile, one scout reports that he thinks rumors of Bobby Jenks‘ demise as a useful closer have been seriously overblown.

“I still think Bobby Jenks, with the right team, could bring them a decent return,” the scout said. “His velocity is down a little, and he’s throwing more two-seam fastballs. But I don’t think his stuff has declined that much to where I’d think he can’t close.”

Bruce Levine expects Kenny to shop Jenks, Konerko, Pierzynski and Buehrle:

The Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies have had the most scouts looking at the White Sox the past three weeks. The Rangers have a strong interest in Pierzynski. They feel he can bring intangibles to bring them to the next level. The Phillies’ bullpen is in need of a power arm with experience, and no one fits that role on the Sox better than Jenks, especially with the injuries to Phillies closer Brad Lidge. …

Joe Cowley says season’s over; but he has a plan!

Cowley says replace Mark Buehrle and Gavin Floyd with Cliff Lee and Daniel Hudson, re-sign Freddy Garcia, trade Bobby Jenks, re-sign J.J. Putz, pickup Matt Thornton’s option, say goodbye to Paul Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski, Carlos Quentin, promote Dayan Viciedo and Tyler Flowers, sign Carl Crawford or Adam Dunn, and sign the one and only Juan Uribe.

I say forget free-agents and the money in the draft and international scouting.

Joey Cora doesn’t like Bobby Jenks

Cowley:

While being asked afterward about Matt Thornton pitching 1 1/3 innings to get the save, Cora took a page from Guillen’s book of snarkiness.

”Since I was the manager today, I never liked [Bobby] Jenks … [bleep] him,” Cora said, before laughing. ”No, Jenks was running during BP and tweaked the calf, so he wasn’t available. But you can put the other one if you want.”

Several teams are interested in Bobby Jenks

Cowley:

According to a source, the [White] Sox have been contacted about Jenks by several teams, but the conversations have gone no further than gauging availability. And yes, he is very available. In order for the Sox to maximize his value on the trade market, they have to show that his seven saves carry more weight than his 6.35 ERA.
