Baseball America on Dan Hudson

from BA’s Prospect Hot-sheet:

Team: Double-A Birmingham (Southern)
Age: 22
Why He’s Here: 2-0, 0.00, 14 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 17 K
The Scoop: Hudson started the season in low Class A, but at this rate he could make a case for getting to Triple-A before the season is over. The 2008 fifth-rounder out of Old Dominion is working on a 20-inning scoreless streak and has allowed no earned runs in five of his eight Double-A starts. Hudson’s delivery isn’t the cleanest—he tends to throw across his body, but there is no arguing with the results.

Josh Phegley is mentioned in the ‘Not So Hot Sheet’ section.

Josh Floyd:

“I’m just so happy to get out here,” said Thompson, 18, the 61st overall pick in this year’s MLB draft, whose contract included a $625,000 bonus. “I’ve waited so long. And finally to get out here … it’s just a great feeling for me personally.” … “The days seemed to get longer,” admitted Thompson, who batted .463 with nine homers for Santa Margarita High School (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) this past spring. “About two weeks ago, I got word from my agent that [my contract] should be coming up pretty soon. It’s just a great feeling.”

The White Sox signed second-round pick Trayce Thompson, an outfielder from Santa Margarita High School in Southern California. Several Southern California sources confirmed Thompson will receive a $625,000 bonus.

MLB’s recommended bonus was $596,700. He will be assigned to the Bristol Sox.

Jim Callis on Jared Mitchell

Jim Callis:

The 23rd overall pick in the draft, Mitchell signed for $1.2 million. Though he has hit .393 in his first eight games at low Class A Kannapolis, he may not race to the majors. He split time between two sports at Louisiana State, and while he’s obviously gifted, he’s also in need of a lot of polish. He put an emphasis on taking pitches to get on base, but he often falls behind in the count, leading to strikeouts. He needs more balance in his stance and less uppercut his swing, and he shows more speed than savvy on the bases and in the outfield.

FutureSox:

Judging by your K rate, how does it feel to throw an invisible baseball? Seriously though, are strikeouts your goal, or would you be happier getting a first-pitch ground out? And do you have one pitch that has been your strikeout pitch?

Haha, our pitching coach Larry Owens said that to me earlier in the season. I would much rather prefer to get a guy out on the first three pitches no matter what. I think a key for me is that I’m able to get ahead of the guys, and put them away when I have 2 strikes. I try to throw my fastball to four different spots and I think not throwing the ball down the middle of the plate has helped me so far this year.

Mike London:

South Rowan graduate Daniel Wagner turned 21 two weeks ago doing exactly what he always wanted to be doing when he turned 21 — playing pro baseball. Wagner, a left-handed hitting second baseman, was a 16th-round draft pick by the Chicago White Sox last month. He agreed to a contract as soon as he could find a pen and was assigned to the Bristol (Va.) Sox of the Appalachian League. The Appy League has been around since 1937, and the bus trips through the mountains have changed little since Franklin Roosevelt was in office. …

LAT:

Outfielder Trayce Thompson from Santa Margarita, a second-round draft choice of the Chicago White Sox, has reached agreement with the team and is scheduled to fly to Chicago this weekend and sign, UCLA baseball Coach John Savage confirmed Friday. Thompson, who had signed with the Bruins, became a top prospect this spring with lots of hard work. He had said his dream was to play professionally, and that’s apparently where he’s headed.

Mark Gonzales reported that he’ll  be heading to Bristol.

Here’s are his stats and MLB.com’s scouting report.

Jared Mitchell isn’t injured

He’s just re-charging his batteries:

The 6’0, 200 pounder our of New Iberia has been placed on the seven-day disabled list by the team. He is eligible to come off of the disabled list Thursday and should debut for the Intimidators then.  Sources tell NewOrleans.Com/Sports that Mitchell is not injured, that the White Sox simply gave him the time to re-charge his batteries, rest a bit from the non-stop grind of LSU football and baseball, and to get his feet on the ground before debuting. He has been taking batting practice with the team. The Intimidators play at Savannah Thursday night.
