“I’ll always respect [Guillen] as a person and give him credit that’s due,” Jenks said. “But I want to play for a manager who trusts his relievers, regardless of what’s going on.
“With the way Ozzie was talking this winter and the way he treated me, I don’t want to fight with the guy. How many times did he question my ability, and then saying how he would love to have me back, but I would have to come to Spring Training and fight for the closer’s role like anyone else?
“Why would I come back to that negativity?” Jenks said. “I’m looking forward to playing for a manager who knows how to run a bullpen.”

According to Jenks, the White Sox offered two years at $10 million after the Winter Meetings and the team then asked for an answer on the morning before the initial agreement was reached with Crain. The White Sox source said the organization spoke with Jenks’ agent before Crain was signed, but no offer was made. It simply was a conversation about expectations.
Other teams besides Boston had interest. Jenks listed those opportunities from closing for Tampa Bay to starting — yes, starting — for the Texas Rangers. Jenks was a starter for five Minor League seasons with the Angels before being converted to the bullpen when joining the White Sox.
UPDATE: Seems Oney Guilen, Ozzie Guillen’s son, didn’t like Jenks’ comments.

Considering all of Jenks’ injuries last year (back, forearm, calf) plus his ongoing weight concerns, I would also take a pass on him. I believe his problems will get worse before they get better as he now enters his 30’s.

last year I expected he’d be non-tendered. I didn’t expect the Sox to end up giving him $7.5 million.

I remember reading that the Sox offered Jenks a multi-year contract before the one-year $7.5M signing. In any event, I’m glad he is now gone.
Also, Oney Guillen is twittering pretty much what you would expect when a player has negative comments about his father. This includes personal off-the-field matters involving Jenks. The Sox have to stop this kid and his mouth. If you were a player, would you want to play for the Sox knowing that your manager’s son might tweet embarrassing personal parts of your life (drinking, drugs, infidelity, etc.) ? If this means firing his old man, then do it – now. The apple sure doesn’t fall far from the tree…does it?

Jerry is known for his loyalty to his employees, but at some point the overall good of the organization has to supersede allegiance. You simply can’t allow in-house matters that should not leave the clubhouse reach the public. Otherwise, baseball will consider us an ongoing joke and free agents/draft choices may steer clear of us. And if current players decide they want out then…

Ozzie constantly claims that his love for his family, the White Sox, and Jerry Reinsdorf in particular are foremost in his life. But then he rationalizes that the pursuit of money allows him to curse out his parents and Reinsdorf. In Guillen’s mind, his constant “I just want to have fun” motto evidently justifies all his ridiculous comments and money-oriented views on life.
You always hear Kenny Williams state the the White Sox want players of high character. That standard should also include the manager.
