Silly to talk about Rockies and Gavin Floyd. White Sox would only want Dexter Fowler and Ian Stewart.

UPDATE: From Bruce Levine’s chat:

Q: Did the Sox ask the Rockies for Ian Stewert and Dexter Flower for Floyd? If so then will they talk again?

A: Unaware of that scenario. Highly doubftul the Sox trade a pitcher without getting one in return especially with the unknown status of Peavy.

  1. Offensive question marks about Stewart and Fowler:

    Stewart vs. LHP in 2010 > 231/343/341/684
    Fowler 2010 home/road splits > Home: 313/401/531/932 Road: 211/297/298/595

Floyd’s 2010 WAR of 4.3 tied him with David Price for 21st among all MLB starting pitchers and was better than Matt Cain.

Considering that the 28 year-old Floyd is under team control for 3 years at $5M, $7M and $9.5M, I would expect fewer questions in the players received. Also, I imagine that trying to project any Rockies’ player offensive performance outside of Coors Field is always challenging.

    • Fowler 2010 home/road splits > Home: 313/401/531/932 Road: 211/297/298/595

those numbers are ugly. B-R shows a 58 tOPS+ and a 70 sOPS+ for fowler’s road games and a .384 BABIP for fowler’s home games. hell, brian anderson would have been a hell of a hitter with a .384 BABIP. and stewart’s road splits are .239/.317/.454. I wouldn’t give Floyd for those two.

tOPS+ ▾ — OPS for split relative to Player’s Total OPS
A number greater than 100 indicates this batter(pitcher) did better(worse) than usual in this split.
A number less than 100 indicates that the batter(pitcher) did worse(better) than usual in this split.
sOPS+ — OPS for split relative to League’s Split OPS
A number greater than 100 indicates this batter(pitcher) did better(worse) than the league in this split.
A number less than 100 indicates that the batter(pitcher) did worse(better) than the league in this split.
League averages are for the major leagues as a whole and include pitchers’ batting.

  2. I missed Fowler’s .384 home BABIP. I wouldn’t trade Floyd for both of these guys either. Plus these guys turn 25 (Fowler) and 26 (Stewart) by April 2011. Too many warts for guys these ages.

Now 23 year-old Florida 1B Logan Morrison as the centerpiece in a Gavin Floyd trade is an entirely different story. But I still go back to the rumored Ozzie-for- Logan Morrison trade.

Florida has its manager on a 1-year contract for 2011. Then they sign Guillen for 2012 after the Sox don’t pick up their 2012 option on Guillen. Florida gets Guillen for the opening of their new stadium in 2012 without losing Morrison.

But what if the Sox exercise their 2012 option on Guillen right now. If Florida believes the the only way they can have Guillen for the 2012 season is to trade Morrison, would they? Just a thought.
