Reports surfaced Thursday that the White Sox had the winning claim on the right-hander [reliever Trevor Hoffman ], but were unable to come to an agreement a deal and the Brewers pulled him off waivers, deciding to keep him.
“It didn’t [happen] by the way,” Williams said. “Don’t take that any further than you need to.”
Williams had just spent nearly a minute explaining why he wouldn’t comment on a Hoffman claim, before then saying there was none.

they’re committing another lineup travesty by sending Pierzynski out there with such regularity. Not only has the once-beloved catcher played quite poorly this season, but his back-up, Ramon Castro, has been absolutely killing the ball when he’s gotten a chance to play. In 95 PA, Castro has been worth slightly more than 7 runs above average. Pierzynski, on the other hand, has easily offset Castro’s positive contributions, as he’s been 13 runs below average offensively in 400 PA on the year.
Brent Morel, 3B/SS, White Sox (Triple-A Charlotte): 3-for-5, 3B, R, RBI. 17-for-36 (.472) during nine-game hitting streak; .324/.352/.505 in 74 Triple-A games.
and from Tuesday’s update:
Brent Morel, 3B/SS, White Sox (Triple-A Charlotte): 2-for-4, HR (7), R, RBI
Splitting time between third base at shortstop due to Dayan Viciedo’s promotion, Morel’s positional switches have had no effect on his hitting, as he’s gone 13-for-26 during his current seven-game hitting streak to raise his Triple-A averages to .321/.350/.498. He’s been a surprisingly solid shortstop, although the hot corner is his more natural position, and one where he’ll get a very long look next spring.
Manny wants a 1-year extension to waive his no-trade clause say Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi. If he clears waivers he’d gain leverage to do so. But if the White Sox claim him, as they plan and may have done already, the Dodgers would be able to negotiate with 1 team only and his leverage evaporates.
Also, Manny isn’t in the Dodgers lineup today (2 pm CT stat time).
