JJ Stankevitz:

Honestly, I feel the same way about this trade as I felt when the Sox dealt Brandon McCarthy to the Rangers in the John Danks trade. I liked Danks, but wasn’t infatuated with him.

And the fact that I remember hearing McCarthy’s name thrown around in rumors for Carl Crawford made that trade hard to swallow at first.

Obviously, the Danks-for-McCarthy trade has turned out to probably be the best deal Kenny Williams has ever made. This Hudson/Holmberg-for-Jackson trade doesn’t have the potential to be the second-best given that Jackson is only under contract through 2011 and is a Boras client, so he probably won’t come back to the Sox after next year anyway. …

Excellent-excellent stuff from JJ.

    • Comparing Hudson to Jackson i like this trade too.

This is a bad trade when you consider the money and years controlled though, unless Jackson pitches much better than most expect him to.

      • One thing that disappoints me with this trade, apart from the potential of the players involved, is that the value of the received players is lower than those of the departing players at the time of the trade. Same thing with the McCarthy trade and the Swisher to the Yankees trade. Yes, John Danks grew to a player that’s much-much-much better Brandon McCarthy but at the time of the trade he hadn’t thrown one pitch in the majors while McCarthy had several quality starts and helped the Sox to 99 wins and a AL Central division crown. Same, and worse, with Swisher II. Why rush and give him away for such a low return? Shop him around. A better offer would be coming. If one didn’t came keep him. I’m tired of Kenny giving away a dollar and getting 50 cents back.
