Austin Peay pitchers Ricky Marshall and David Vicini have signed professional contracts, Govs coach Gary McClure announced on Friday. Marshall, a Mansfield, Ohio, native signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago White Sox and is expected to be assigned to the Bristol (Va.) White Sox of the rookie level Appalachian League. He finished his two-year Austin Peay career with an 11-9 record in 38 appearances, compiling a 4.94 ERA. Marshall was 7-6 with a 5.19 ERA in 2010, striking out 52 batters over 78.0 innings.

Marshall’s fastball consistently registers between 90 and 93 mph, topping out at 96 this spring.
“The White Sox like that I throw hard. They said they needed a pitcher immediately,” the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Marshall said. “They said, at least for the first couple of weeks until I get back into baseball shape, I would work in relief. After that, they weren’t sure if I would be a starter or a reliever.”
