The Red Sox traded Sea Dogs left-hander Andrew Dobies to the Chicago White Sox for a player to be named later or cash.
Dobies, who turned 27 today, was a third-round draft pick in 2004 out of the University of Virginia. He first landed in Portland in 2006 as a starter and played a part in the Sea Dogs’ championship run. Shoulder problems hampered his development and the Red Sox made him a reliever.
He made 32 appearances for the Sea Dogs last year (3.69) and three this season (1.80, with 8 strikeouts in 5 innings). …
And here’s a scouting report from sonsofsamhorn.net from 2006.
UPDATE: Dobies was assigned to AA Birmingham.
