Here’s what they have to say on Stephen Sauer:

What he needs to improve: Sauer is a polished prospect. He already has fantastic control of a low 90’s sinking fastball, he keeps the ball on the ground, doesn’t give up home runs and strikes out a fair number of batters. He will need to continue working on his changeup, however, to help combat left-handed hitters, who hit .321 against him last year (vs. .271 AVG for right handers). …

He has a very good changeup that will keep him as a starter. His breaking stuff has been inconsistent, but can be very good at times.

TriCities.com:

As a second-year player with the Bristol White Sox in the short-season Appalachian League, Upchurch is hoping to earn a promotion to the Kannapolis Intimidators in the Low Class A South Atlantic League. With a solid five-inning performance Thursday against the Burlington Royals, Upchurch moved another step closer to his goal. Relying on a mind-bending change-up, the 6-foot-5 right-hander allowed just five hits and struck out four in a 2-0 loss to the Royals.

“The only thing that’s keeping me down in rookie ball is commanding the fastball and hitting my spots,” Upchurch said. “That’s what I had to show my coaches today. I can pretty much get anybody out with my changeup, and my slider is looking good.”

FutureSox:

Griffith was a highly touted high schooler in the 2007 draft when the Sox took him in the 2nd round. When he signed he had a great fastball-slider combination, but after undergoing Tommy John Surgery last season he has decided to ditch his wicked slider according to tricitiessports.com. We’ll have to see what Griffith’s curve and changeup look like post-surgery, but it is very unfortunate to have to lose the slider.
