Joe Cowley says season’s over; but he has a plan!

Cowley says replace Mark Buehrle and Gavin Floyd with Cliff Lee and Daniel Hudson, re-sign Freddy Garcia, trade Bobby Jenks, re-sign J.J. Putz, pickup Matt Thornton’s option, say goodbye to Paul Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski, Carlos Quentin, promote Dayan Viciedo and Tyler Flowers, sign Carl Crawford or Adam Dunn, and sign the one and only Juan Uribe.

I say forget free-agents and the money in the draft and international scouting.

If Mark Buehrle is traded, he isn’t coming back to the South Side

from Tuesday’s Bruce Levine’s chat:

Q: Bruce-If we see the Sox drop off next month and Kenny starts to trade people , like Mark Buehrle, is there a chance we could see him comeback to the team after the season?

A: Buehrle if traded will not be back. You’re not going to bring back a guy making $14 million if you’ve already made a decision to move a lifelong Sox player. He wouldn’t come back. His choice would be St. Louis. He’s always said he wanted to play for his hometown team at least for one year.

Multiple teams interested in Sox relievers

Cowley:

The list is up to six … and counting.

Bobby Jenks, Paul Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski, Mark Buehrle, Andruw Jones – and now J.J. Putz. He’s the latest White Sox player to see his name pop up on the rumor mill.

… One National League scout said Monday that there were more teams than just the Philadelphia Phillies interested in Sox relievers, as bullpen problems seem to be springing up all over baseball.

Atlanta was the team (one of?) Buehrle was almost traded to

Gonzales:

Buehrle said he’s not as stressed as three years ago, when he was nearly traded to Atlanta while his wife Jamie was expecting the couple’s first child. Buehrle got a four-year extension with limited no-trade rights, and son Braden was born about two weeks later — just before the July 31 trading deadline.

Texas Rangers interested in A.J. Pierzynski

Gonzales:

The most urgent decision involves catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who attracted interest from Texas recently. Pierzynski can become a free agent after this season, and the Sox would certainly like some compensation if they don’t re-sign him. Pieryznski, 33, can gain full trade veto rights on June 14 by virtue of his 10th anniversary as a major league player and spending at least the past five seasons with the same team. Pierzynski currently has a limited no-trade clause. … And then there are financial considerations. A source familiar with Texas’ murky ownership situation said it’s uncertain whether the Rangers could accept the balance of Pierzysnki’s $6.7 million salary because of a snag in the sale of the team.

Gonzales, also, touches on Mark Buehrle, Paul Konerko, Jake Peavy, Tyler Flowers, Jordan Danks, and  Dayan Viciedo.

Back to A.J. How about 1B/OF Mitchell Moreland (stats)?

Rosenthal’s potential trade candidates

MLBTR on Ken Rosenthal’s latest video update:

If the White Sox decide to blow up their roster, it may happen sooner rather than later, given the ten and five rights that will kick in for A.J. Pierzynski and Mark Buehrle this summer. Pierzynski, Konerko, J.J. Putz, and Andruw Jones would be the most likely trade candidates.

Kenny Williams is losing his patience with the 2010 White Sox

Cowley:

A one-word text response spoke volumes. Asked on Saturday if he was ”losing patience,” general manager Ken Williams waited a good 10 minutes to fire back: ”Yes.” A cryptic ”yes” at that, period at the end and all.

… On the list of potential movable parts are A.J. Pierzynski, Paul Konerko (upon agreement), Bobby Jenks, Mark Buehrle (upon agreement), Andruw Jones, Carlos Quentin and Scott Linebrink. But what would be the return for any of those names? It would be nothing more than skimming dollars and cents off a sinking payroll — change for the sake of making a change. …

Anderson:

Rally’s WAR currently has Buehrle at 138th overall. Just behind a few Hall of Famers, like Dizzy Dean and Rich Gossage (he’s actually in a dead-heat with Roy Oswalt at this point). With a four win season Buehrle will jump to 106th all time. With another next season he’ll be around 82nd (or where Roy Halladay and Jamie Moyer sit right now). With yet another, Buerhle enters a stretch where seemingly every other pitcher listed is in the Hall of Fame.  …

Pitch classifications provided by the Gameday Algorithm and may be inaccurate.
Clicking individual pitch types will provide individual velocity histograms for each pitch.

Nibbleness is the arithmetic mean of the distance of each pitch, in inches, from the edge of a normalized strikezone. Lower indicates “more Nibbley”.
Time to Plate is the time, in seconds, that it takes an average pitch of this type to reach the plate. This is strongly correlated with velocity, but also factors in movement.
