White Sox interested in Atlanta Braves’ RHP Brandon Beachy?

Cafardo @ BG (via MLBTR):

Brandon Beachy, RHP, Braves – His success (20 strikeouts, two earned runs in his last 12 innings) since returning from the disabled list may accelerate a possible deal to improve the Braves’ offense. Whether Beachy would be trade bait is anyone’s guess, but his emergence could make a veteran such as Derek Lowe available. The White Sox recently sent Dave Yokum, their fine assistant general manager/pro scout, to watch Beachy and Braves’ pitching, so we’ll see if there’s any match, and whether the White Sox would ever consider dealing Carlos Quentin.

Beachy was John Sickels’ “Prospect of the Day” back in April:

… Undrafted, he signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Braves after a successful summer season in the collegiate Valley League. After a solid ’09, he jumped to prominence in 2010 by leading all of the minor leagues with a 1.73 ERA, also showing a 148/28 K/BB ratio in 120 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. He performed well in three September starts, and made the Atlanta rotation this spring. The 24-year-old Beachy has a 90-94 MPH fastball to go with a solid curveball and changeup, and he has an excellent feel for pitching. …

and got a B- from Sickels  in October of 2010:

9) Brandon Beachy, RHP, Grade B-: Finished product, can be a number four starter or a very good reliever.

Fangraphs says the average speed of his fastball is 91.8mph.

Would Atlanta trade a pitcher that’s nearly a rookie and with such good numbers?

And here’s the Texas Leaguers Pitch F/X database’s page for Beachy.

Rosenthal speculates a Derek Lowe-Paul Konerko trade

Rosenthal:

Braves right-hander Derek Lowe turns 37 on June 1. He is guaranteed $15 million in each of the next three seasons. And he had a 6.65 ERA in his final nine starts. So, while Lowe is the starting pitcher the Braves most want to trade, they are finding it difficult to move him, according to major-league sources. … The White Sox are another potential match for Lowe — first baseman Paul Konerko, another right-handed hitter who would fit the Braves, will earn $12 million next season. Konerko, however, has only one more year remaining on his contract, while Lowe has three years at greater dollars.

Stats: B-R: Paul Konerko, Derek Lowe. Fangraphs: Paul Konerko, Derek Lowe.

A would be 37 next year with a K/BB under 2 and 3 $15 million years remaining on his contract? And in the NL? Stay away Kenny. Don’t go there.
