Terry Doyle, RHP, White Sox (Triple-A Charlotte): 6 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 9 K. Two straight good starts for rule 5 pick that didn’t stick with the Twins; far more command than stuff.
Conor Jackson signed a Minor League deal with the White Sox on Saturday and was assigned to Triple-A Charlotte. The right-handed-hitting outfielder was in camp with the Rangers during Spring Training before being released.
Jackson, 29, is a .271 career hitter with 52 home runs over stops with the D-backs, Red Sox and A’s in seven seasons. But as general manager Ken Williams pointed out, Jackson never really fully recovered from Valley Fever that hit him in 2009.
“He was on a career trajectory where his ceiling was through the roof,” said Williams of Jackson, who had three productive seasons in Arizona from 2006-08. “He got Valley Fever, which was a terrible thing to catch. He will be working his way back in Triple-A.”
… The performance of this group of players did jump quite a bit in the 2nd half of the season with the biggest increase coming in the form of power (SLG increases by 0.115 and ISO increasing by 0.086). Using these numbers to predict how the rest of the season would go, Adam Dunn would have a 2nd half triple slash line of 0.198/0.340/0.427. …
BTW, Adam Dunn is felling good. And Jake Peavy agrees: “That looked like you.” Hey you two, get a room!

[Dayan] Viciedo is a big guy at 5-11, 230. A right-handed hitter, he has outstanding raw power and has tapped into his physical strength more effectively over the last year. He crushes fastballs and has power to all fields, giving him a good chance to hit for a high average. He has made progress improving his reads on breaking pitches, but while his plate discipline is still a weakness, he’s shown the willingness to make adjustments and learn from his mistakes. Given his age, his upside is huge. …
