whitesox.com: “Despite ejections, Sox take series finale.”

Wrong headline. Should be ‘Despite Bobby Jenks’ latest meltdown, Sox take series finale.”

BTW, here’s Aaron Gleeman:

Bobby Jenks did his best to blow it [5-1 lead] in the ninth inning, allowing three runs to score and putting two runners on base without recording an out, but then Indians manager Manny Acta went into small-ball mode.Acta ordered a bunt, which a) gave a struggling pitcher his first out, and b) opened up first base so the White Sox could intentionally walk the Indians’ best hitter, Shin-Soo Choo. Jenks then struck out Austin Kearns and got Russell Branyan to fly out, escaping with a 5-4 win.

Guillen was probably sitting in the clubhouse, watching on television and thanking Acta for the help.

Cowley:

The list is up to six … and counting.

Bobby Jenks, Paul Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski, Mark Buehrle, Andruw Jones – and now J.J. Putz. He’s the latest White Sox player to see his name pop up on the rumor mill.

… One National League scout said Monday that there were more teams than just the Philadelphia Phillies interested in Sox relievers, as bullpen problems seem to be springing up all over baseball.

Philadelphia Phillies interested in Bobby Jenks, J.J. Putz

Levine:

The Philadelphia Phillies are among a couple of teams looking at the Chicago White Sox and trying to project which players will be available if the the White Sox don’t get back into the American League Central race over the next few weeks. One top Philadelphia scout was looking at the White Sox this week, concentrating on closer Bobby Jenks.

… The Phillies also are interested in reliever J.J. Putz, who had extensive experience as a setup man and closer and would fit nicely into the Phillies’ bullpen mix.

For prospects lists go here. Maybe someone like a J.C. Ramirez, Brody Colvin or Jarred Cossart?

BTW, Jenks and Putz pitched yesterday. Here is the pitch f/x report. Jenks hit 98, Putz 97.

Kenny Williams trying to gauge the values of White Sox players

Filed under: Chicago White Sox — The Wizard @ May 17, 2010 7:14 pm

Cowley:

As far as the rumors about catcher A.J. Pierzynski, the Sun-Times reported three weeks ago that the Sox were talking to teams about him in an effort to gauge interest if they do get in a fire-sale mode. At the time, Williams didn’t like what he was hearing.

A source said that hasn’t changed and that Williams also has been trying to gauge what type of market there would be for closer Bobby Jenks and reliever Scott Linebrink. Again, he hasn’t heard anything to pique his interest at the moment.

Kenny Williams is losing his patience with the 2010 White Sox

Cowley:

A one-word text response spoke volumes. Asked on Saturday if he was ”losing patience,” general manager Ken Williams waited a good 10 minutes to fire back: ”Yes.” A cryptic ”yes” at that, period at the end and all.

… On the list of potential movable parts are A.J. Pierzynski, Paul Konerko (upon agreement), Bobby Jenks, Mark Buehrle (upon agreement), Andruw Jones, Carlos Quentin and Scott Linebrink. But what would be the return for any of those names? It would be nothing more than skimming dollars and cents off a sinking payroll — change for the sake of making a change. …

Kenny Williams wants to be GM or President of the Oakland Raiders

CSN’s David Kaplan has a 20-minute interview with Kenny Williams (on CSN’s ‘Inside Look’).The video is divided in 4 parts (Part 1: 7:38, Part 2: 4:29, Part 3: 6:06, Part 4: 2:47).

The Oakland Raiders bit is towards the end of the 1st video (around the 6:00 point). Kenny also says that he has adopted some of the Raiders’  ‘Just Win Baby’ mentality and that the signings of Bobby Jenks and A.J. Pierzynski were partly influenced by watching the 70s and 80s Raiders giving second chances to players that had made mistakes in life.

Bobby Jenks thinks removing him from closer doesn’t make sense

Filed under: Chicago White Sox — The Wizard @ May 9, 2010 10:39 pm

Merkin:

He might get a few days to figure out the real problem, with Matt Thornton, J.J. Putz, or even Sergio Santos, moving into the closer’s role, although Jenks doesn’t see the need for a change.

“No, that doesn’t even make sense,” Jenks said. “Physically, I feel great. My fastball is back to what it used to be, and the stuff is there, but it just was off the mark today.”

What doesn’t make sense is why Ozzie put him in with a 2-run lead. Bobby needs a margin bigger than 4 runs.

UPDATE: Merkin:

In 13 games pitched this season, Bobby Jenks has retired the side without giving up a hit or issuing a walk just twice
