Star Found Shooting Water “Bullets”

National Geographic: Stellar sprinklers may help irrigate cosmos, study suggests.

Seven hundred and fifty light-years from Earth, a young, sunlike star has been found with jets that blast epic quantities of water into interstellar space, shooting out droplets that move faster than a speeding bullet.

The discovery suggests that protostars may be seeding the universe with water. These stellar embryos shoot jets of material from their north and south poles as their growth is fed by infalling dust that circles the bodies in vast disks.

“If we picture these jets as giant hoses and the water droplets as bullets, the amount shooting out equals a hundred million times the water flowing through the Amazon River every second,” said Lars Kristensen, a postdoctoral astronomer at Leiden University in the Netherlands.

“We are talking about velocities reaching 200,000 kilometers [124,000 miles] per hour, which is about 80 times faster than bullets flying out of a machine gun,” said Kristensen, lead author of the new study detailing the discovery, which has been accepted for publication in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.

Firefox 4: Hide the Bookmarks Bar & Stop trimming URL previews

1. To automatically hide the firefox bookmarks bar when the toolbar is not in use, and have it show up when the mouse hovers over the Firefox toolbr, copy/paste the following code in your UserChrome.css file:

-moz-transition: visibility 30s, opacity 30s ease !important;
}

#navigator-toolbox:hover #PersonalToolbar {

To adjust the time it has to pass before the toolbar gets hidden, change the two 30s values. Tip from Lifehacker.

2. To stop firefox 4 from trimming the URLs in the status bar, copy/paste the following code in your UserChrome.css file:

statuspanel {
max-width: 100% !important;
}

This tells firefox to allow the status panel to use length 100% of the status bar. You can adjust this number as you like. Tip from Lifehacker.

I just installed Firefox 4

I love it. Firefox 4 is so damn fast. 2 quick observations:

1. The tabs were moved below the address bar, the ‘RSS Feed’ button was moved to the top of the Bookmarks menu, and the ‘Reload’ button was moved to the right end of the address bar. If you want these back right-click on a blank space on the menu bar or the tab bar (see how) and click ‘Tabs on Top’ to move the tabs below the address bar (see how), or select ‘Customize’ and drag the ‘Subscribe’ button to the address bar (see how), or select ‘Customize’ and move the ‘Reload’ button to the left of the address button (see how).

2. The Add-on toolbar isn’t on by default. To turn it on, right-click on a blank space on the menu bar or the tab bar again and click ‘Add-on bar’ or press the Control and slash buttons together (Ctrl+/) (see add-on bar).

So, get firefox 4 now!
