Scott Merkin:

This move of Frasor means the White Sox have just over $97 million committed to 13 players for 2012. With right fielder Carlos Quentin being shipped to the Padres on Saturday, the White Sox also have no arbitration-eligible players on their roster.

Tell Marco Paddy to start signing players Kenny!

RotoHardball’s Todd McCacken looks at Chris Sale

Todd McCacken:

… As you can see, Sale doesn’t rely on his four seamer nearly as much (he cut its usage nearly in half), and become much more efficient at commanding it as well as his slider. Changes to pitch frequency and release point helped him regain feel for all of his pitches, and perhaps most importantly, helped his changeup become much more effective (doubling his swing and miss rate on the pitch to 40% against RHB).

To add fuel to the fire, and likely cementing the White Sox’ decision to add Sale to the rotation sooner rather than later, the kid’s average velocity and movement on almost all of his pitches increased as the year wore on. Sale’s slider now averaged over three inches of vertical drop (-3.03) compared to earlier in the year and has the chance to become the most dominant pitch in the American League next year and, if I may be so bold, could rival Randy Johnson’s famed “Mr. Snappy” in terms of the sheer terror it elicits from opposing hitters. …

BaseballInstinct looks at Sox prospects 3B Rangel Ravelo and RHP Jeff Soptic

BaseballInstinct:

356°. Jeff Soptic, RHP White Sox 4/8/1991  - Soptic is a radar gun darling, with the ability to light it up triple digits. A big frame and easy action with that velo is something you can’t teach. He was hit hard in CC though and has to learn to pitch low in the zone. Might be best suited to learn a sinker and develop his slider. Projects as a RP due to well below average secondaries. and

339°. Rangel Ravelo, 3B White Sox 4/24/1992 - The 2010 sixth-round selection utilizes a short, compact swing that allowed him to hit for average in both the Rookie-level Appalachian League (.384) and the Low-A South Atlantic League (.317), figures made even more impressive when considering he was just 19 years old.  He’s a good defensive player and while he’s yet to display any power, many believe it will develop.  ETA 2014.

whitesox.com press release:

The Chicago White Sox have acquired right-handed pitchers Myles Jaye and Daniel Webb from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-hander Jason Frasor.

20-year old Jaye was drafted by Toronto in the 17th round of the 2010 MLB Draft. He played 13 games in rookie-ball and started 9 of them:

22-year old Webb was drafted by Arizona in the 12th round of the 2008 MLB Draft and Toronto in the 18th round of the 2009 MLB Draft: He started all 15 of his games in 2010 and 12 of his 19 games in 2011:

Considering I didn’t even want Kenny to pick-up Frasor’s $3.75 million 2012 option, Kenny did just fine. The Sox don’t have any players eligible for arbitration now.

UPDATE: To sign them after the draft, Toronto gave Webb $450,000 and Jaye $250,000.

Will the Sox go after Yoennis Cespedes?

Bruce Levine:

After trading both Carlos Quentin and Sergio Santos, the Chicago White Sox have cleared some payroll, upwards of $10 million off their 2012 salary base. That money may be used to bid on 26-year-old Cespedes or 19-year-old Jorge Soler, also a multi-talented Cuban defector, but White Sox general manager Kenny Williams was reluctant to say how far in the White Sox are in relationship to the Cuban free agents.

Scott Merkin:

“What I will say is that there are some doors now open for us that were not open just yesterday because of savings of dollars,” Williams said. “But which direction we are heading with that, it would be counterproductive in getting something done to say we are deciding to go down that road. So we can take some of that little bit of payroll we cleared and invest it in something that helps the Major League club now, or something that helps on the horizon with another prospect. We could end up making this a 3-for-1 deal instead of a 2-for-1, albeit with two guys we really like.”

Well, with teams like the Yankee$, the Red Sox, the new Marlins, and the Cubs involved I think we can be pretty sure the Sox won’t land Cespedes. Kenny will only kick the tires. Probably…
