Scott Merkin:

If the White Sox hope to derive more baseball talent from Latin America, then Marco Paddy appears to be the man to take them into that area.

Paddy, 47, was named by the White Sox as special assistant to the general manager-international operations. For the past five seasons, Paddy served as director of Latin America Operations with the Blue Jays and will now lead the Latin American scouting efforts of Chicago, with an emphasis on international signings. …

Hopefully Latin America will be expanded outside of Cuba for the Sox…

UPDATE: More from Baseball America’s Ben Bradler:

Paddy had been Toronto’s director of Latin American operations the last five years, during which time the Blue Jays signed Cuban shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria, Venezuelan righthander Henderson Alvarez, Venezuelan catcher Carlos Perez and Venezuelan righthander Adonys Cardona, among others.

The Blue Jays were one of the most aggressive teams on the international amateur market this year, signing Mexican righthander Roberto Osuna, Venezuelan outfielders Wuilmer Becerra and Jesus Gonzalez, Dominican shortstop Dawel Lugo and Venezuelan righthanders Manuel Cordoba and Jesus Tinoco.

John Sickels published his Toronto’s Top-20 prospects for 2012 list today.

Bryan Hoch:

The Daily News indicates the Yankees may be interested in trading for the Cubs’ Matt Garza, but are unwilling to move blue chip prospects like Jesus Montero or Manny Banuelos for him. The New York Post also notes that the Yankees could consider dealing Dellin Betances to the White Sox for John Danks.

Here are Betances’ AA and AAA stats:

Hmm, a 2.3 K/BB ratio and 1.476 WHIP AA pitcher for Johnnie Danks? No thanks. Terry Doyle’s AA numbers were a 3.32 K/BB ratio and a 1.130 WHIP and the Sox left him unprotected in the Rule V draft.

Ask for 19-year old catcher Gary Sanchez to give them John Danks Kenny.

J.J. Stankevitz:

With the Winter Meetings less than a week away and White Sox news stagnating a bit in the last few weeks, maybe a reminder that Mark Buehrle and John Danks aren’t likely to be back is in order.

That’s precisely what FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal said on Tuesday’s edition of Chicago Tribune Live, telling the panel he doesn’t see either Buehrle or Danks playing for the Sox for 2012. …
