White Sox interested in Atlanta Braves’ RHP Brandon Beachy?

Cafardo @ BG (via MLBTR):

Brandon Beachy, RHP, Braves – His success (20 strikeouts, two earned runs in his last 12 innings) since returning from the disabled list may accelerate a possible deal to improve the Braves’ offense. Whether Beachy would be trade bait is anyone’s guess, but his emergence could make a veteran such as Derek Lowe available. The White Sox recently sent Dave Yokum, their fine assistant general manager/pro scout, to watch Beachy and Braves’ pitching, so we’ll see if there’s any match, and whether the White Sox would ever consider dealing Carlos Quentin.

Beachy was John Sickels’ “Prospect of the Day” back in April:

… Undrafted, he signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Braves after a successful summer season in the collegiate Valley League. After a solid ’09, he jumped to prominence in 2010 by leading all of the minor leagues with a 1.73 ERA, also showing a 148/28 K/BB ratio in 120 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. He performed well in three September starts, and made the Atlanta rotation this spring. The 24-year-old Beachy has a 90-94 MPH fastball to go with a solid curveball and changeup, and he has an excellent feel for pitching. …

and got a B- from Sickels  in October of 2010:

9) Brandon Beachy, RHP, Grade B-: Finished product, can be a number four starter or a very good reliever.

More prospect reports here.

Fangraphs says the average speed of his fastball is 91.8mph.

Would Atlanta trade a pitcher that’s nearly a rookie and with such good numbers?

And here’s the Texas Leaguers Pitch F/X database’s page for Beachy.

Dunn!

John Sickels on Dayan Viciedo (video) [UPDATE]

Sickels on MLBall:

[Dayan] Viciedo is a big guy at 5-11, 230. A right-handed hitter, he has outstanding raw power and has tapped into his physical strength more effectively over the last year. He crushes fastballs and has power to all fields, giving him a good chance to hit for a high average. He has made progress improving his reads on breaking pitches, but while his plate discipline is still a weakness, he’s shown the willingness to make adjustments and learn from his mistakes. Given his age, his upside is huge. …

After launching 2 Home Runs and drawing a walk on Saturday, the Cuban Tank went 0-4 with a BB and a K yesterday and now he is hitting .323/.366/.535/.901 according to firstinning.com, .322/.365/.534/.898 according to minorleaguebaseball.com, with 20 BB and 62 K. That’s a 5.7% BB% and a a 17.7 K%. Other numbers: .363 BABIP, 47% GB%, 17% LD%, 58 RC, 6.75 RC/27, .382 wOBA, 120 wOBA+, 145 OPS+.

And here’s video of his second Home Run on Saturday (0:31).

UPDATE: And here’s video of all 5 home runs Viciedo hit while he was with the White Sox last year:
