Kenny Williams says Ozzie Guillen is keeping Dayan Viciedo in the minors. For now. [UPDATE]

Ballantini @ CSN:

“Right now we’re going to hold tight,” Williams said with regard to a Viciedo callup. “Ozzie likes the team that he’s running out there every day. If it turns out he wants a little more offense, change up the mix a little bit, we know we can tap into [Viciedo] at moment’s notice. And he knows he can get him at a moment’s notice if [Guillen] wants to change up the mix.”Note the language there. Guillen remains in Pierre’s camp, refusing to bench him based primarily on his unparalleled work ethic. That devotion is unimpeachable, but at some point All-In has to apply more to the talent on the field than respect for the roster.

Brett Ballantini tweets:

It’s increasingly certain Pierre vs. Viciedo is an Ozzie (JP) vs. Kenny (Dayan) battle. KW wants Dayan up; Ozzie is content with team as is

UPDATE: Newer Kenny:

The best player available to Williams right now is Viciedo, who is batting .330 in Triple-A. Williams is letting his coaching staff dictate if or when Viciedo gets called up. For now.

“I think the issue is if I do bring him here it will be to play everyday, and it isn’t until I get that feeling from the coaching staff that he is in fact needed, and they believe that the mix that they are currently sending out there isn’t going to get the job done,” Williams said. “As long as they believe that it’s going to get the job done, then I’ll stick with them and defer to their opinions. If there ever comes a time where I feel strongly enough about making a move of that ilk, then I’ll call them aside and we’ll have a little stronger dialogue, and I’ll see if I can influence some one way or another.”

In other Kenny news, he wants better fundamental baseball from the Sox:

“Listen, if you are going to play championship baseball you have to be fundamentally sound,” Williams said. “You have to catch the ball, you have to execute. The double plays, the pickoff plays … the running game has to be slowed certainly to a greater degree. We have to get runners in with less than two outs at a greater clip.”

Other White Sox links: J.J. explains how he stopped caring for games against the Cubs, Brett Ballantini looks at the Sox-Cubs history and finds one team has the upper hand, James recaps the past week, the Sox signed 23 of their 50 draft picks, Ozzie Guillen wants the Florida Marlins to win the World Series, and Paul Konerko’s HR tonight gives him a franchise-record 12 seasons with at least 20 HRs.

And a couple funny tweets are inside: (more…)
