The positive momentum surrounding Jake Peavy’s recovery from surgery hit a snag Sunday as the Chicago White Sox shut down the right-handed pitcher with rotator cuff tendinitis.
Peavy, who is on anti-inflammatories, will be reassessed Monday. If he’s unable to make his scheduled start Thursday against the Chicago Cubs, it’s doubtful he’ll be on the opening day roster.
UPDATE: Gregor @ DH:
When asked if Peavy is going to be on the White Sox’ 25-man roster when the regular season opens at Cleveland on April 1, manager Ozzie Guillen did not sound too encouraging.
“He will be in Cleveland on Opening Day, but I don’t know if he’s going to be on the roster,” Ozzie told reporters. “I know for a fact he wants to be on the team, but we have to make sure when he’s on the team, he’s on the team for good.”
