With LHP Sale and Thornton and RHP Santos and Crain, closer by committee based on matchups seems the best way to go. And this includes the previous innings also.

I also want Sale to face the Twins LHH in high leverage situations rather than Thornton. Thornton is basically a one-pitch pitcher while Sale has at least two pitches. I still remember how silly Sale made Mauer look last year. And I also remember Thome sitting on Thornton’s fastball for a game-winning HR. Nothing against Thornton, but Sale has more than one pitch to get the job done.

Thornton is too important in the 7th and 8th innings and sale shouldn’t be the closer unless there are no other options.
