As expected, White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez opted out of his $1.1 million contract for next season, which should prompt talks for a long-term extension for the Silver Slugger winner.
The Sox have a week to pick up a $2.5 million option on Ramirez, which they will do while the two sides also can talk about extending Ramirez’s contract.
UPDATE: Heyman @ SI tweets that the Sox will pick-up the $2.5 million option.
