Brent Morel surprised the White Sox called him up

Bakersfield:

“It’s pretty surreal right now. I didn’t think this would happen this year,” Morel said in New York City as he was making an airline connection to Boston.

“It hasn’t hit me yet,” Morel said. “I’ve been on the phone all day. … I’m sure when I’m taking batting practice at Fenway (Park) it will sink in a little bit.”

… Morel said he was surprised about the call-up because of the financial implications to the White Sox.

Chicago will owe Morel a pro-rated portion of the yearly major league minimum salary of around $400,000, and Morel’s “clock” will start toward his arbitration-eligible time.
