The White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers may be closing in on a deal to send Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez to the South Side in exchange for minor league prospects.
The deal appeared to be close Wednesday when reports surfaced that Ramirez was claimed by the Sox on waivers.
… The Dodgers appeared to be trying to negotiate a trade instead of allowing Ramirez to be claimed outright without compensation, with the Sox having only to pay his remaining salary.
UPDATE #1: Mark Gonzales says that according to a Dodgers source “the Dodgers are very eager to move Ramirez.”
UPDATE #2: Dylan Hernandez (LA Times) tweets that he’s hearing the same: that the Sox and Dodgers are talking trade. And Bob Nightengale (USA Today) tweets that Manny has let it be known, through his friends, that he’ll accept a trade to the Sox.
UPDATE #3: Bruce Levine (ESPN) says a Major League source shot down the CST report, that the Sox and Dodgers are working on a deal, since all MLB teams have until Friday to claim or not Manny.
