if the Sox claim Ramirez and Los Angeles doesn’t pull him back, they would have to pay Ramirez roughly $4 million this year and $5 million in each of the next three years, which is all deferred as part of Manny’s 2010 salary.

thankfully that was corrected to:

if the Sox claim Ramirez and Los Angeles doesn’t pull him back, they would have to pay Ramirez over $1 million this year and over $3 million in deferred money.

I commit my share of mistakes like this!

Goldstein @ BP:

Trayce Thompson, OF, White Sox (Low-A Kannapolis): 2-for-4, RBI. Toolsy-but-raw prospect has 11 total bases in last three games; .244/.306/.476 line is actually a very pleasant surprise.

Here are Trayce’s stats.

White Sox will claim Manny Ramirez

Rosenthal @ FS:

Manny Ramirez will not get through waivers. The White Sox, who pursued Ramirez before the non-waiver deadline, will claim him with the intention of acquiring him, according to a major-league source.

The Dodgers have yet to put Ramirez on waivers, but that move is expected as early as Tuesday. National League teams would get the first crack at claiming Ramirez, but none would be expected to take such a step.

The White Sox, whose record is the worst of the AL contenders, seemingly would be in good position to win the claim. However, they could back off claiming Ramirez if the Dodgers delayed putting him on waivers and the White Sox’s deficit in the AL Central grew from 41/2 games. …

Cowley tweets that according to a major-league source “Ken Williams is pushing all his chips on getting Manny Ramirez.”

BTW, here’s Aaron Gleeman’s take.
