For now, the AL Central is looking like a good, old-fashioned Twins-White Sox showdown. Seth at TwinsCentric noted that the winner of the White Sox-Twins season series has won the division in six of the last eight years, with the only exceptions being 2007 (in which the Sox and Twins split their season series while Cleveland won the division) and 2008 (in which the Sox lost the season series to the Twins but won thanks to Jim Thome and John Danks).
Right now, the Twins lead the season series 6-3. At this point, the Sox can lose the season series to the Twins if they take five of the next nine and play even with Minnesota in the remaining 49 games. But that’ll be a tall order.
Given how good Minnesota is (more on that in a bit), I’m thinking the White Sox have to win six of the nine remaining games against the Twins to win the division. That’s a tall order, but with six of those nine games at home, it’s not impossible. …
