The aforementioned AL executive, however, added that it wouldn’t be a stretch to see Gordon Beckham be included in a deal if the return was good enough. He did not, though, mention Fielder nor have any knowledge of Williams’ interest level in the slugger.
“From what I know, I think they would trade Beckham right now,” the executive said. “It would have to be a blockbuster, but I think they like Dayan Viciedo better. Beckham’s going to be a good player, but he got a little full of himself. If he keeps hitting the way he has been lately, it might change their minds.
“But when [Brent] Lillibridge came up and showed he was a better player than they thought he might have been, it may have lit a fire under Beckham.”
