Time to send Gordon Beckham down to the minors?

JJ says yes:

June has been particularly cruel to Beckham’s numbers. He maintained good walk rates in April (8.5 percent) and May (10.5 percent), but in June, he’s taken a grand total of one walk in 73 plate appearances. His walk-to-strikeout ratio in June is a putrid 0.07 percent.

Beckham has completely lost his plate discipline in June, probably because he’s going up to the plate trying to do too much. And it doesn’t look like Beckham is going to break out of his slump any time soon.

I’ve held out about as long as possible on this front, but I can’t deny it any longer: it’s time to send Gordon Beckham to Triple-A.

Sadly, I got to agree. Beckham is only getting worse. And that won’t get  get better by riding the bench. Forget Greg ‘The Excuse‘ Walker’s ‘Beckham is coming out of it right now‘ crap. He needs to get away for a bit. Maybe give BA a call. BA will hook him up.

UPDATE: Yes, I still got it!

Ozzie Guillen thinks Gordon Beckham strikes out too much

Here’s Ozzie Guillen:

“It’s no doubt we need better at-bats from Gordon. You can say he hit a couple balls hard, and I let people know he was swinging the bat better, but I don’t know how many strikeouts he has. He’s got to cut that down big time. When you strike out like that, you have to hit 40 home runs, and hit .250, if you’re going to strike out 100-plus times. When you’re batting ninth, that’s a lot.”

and:

“When you’re batting ninth, (you’re) the one guy has to put the ball in play. A lot of swings and misses, and only one home run. When you swing and miss and strike out that much, you got to be Jim Thome. You got to be that type of guy. But I’m really concerned about the strikeout situation. You batting ninth and you strike out, that’s not a good combination. Is he fighting for his at-bat? No doubt about it. But he takes it like a professional. He plays hard. All the stuff is positive about him. I know it’s not easy playing when you’re in his situation. It’s not easy to keep you head up. I went trough it . A lot of players went through it, but he’s handling it every well. But you look at two or three strikeouts a game, and I don’t think that’s the game he should be playing. As long as he’s here, he will be playing. I don’t say he’s playing bad, he’s struggled offensively all year long.”

White Sox sign 7th round draft pick SS Tyler Saladino

Palomar:

Oral Roberts University shortstop and former Palomar all-state and All-American selection Tyler Saladino, the Chicago White Sox’ seventh-round pick in the 2010 draft, signed with the Sox on Monday.

Saladino the 2010 Summit League Player of the Year as an Oral Roberts junior, has been assigned to the White Sox’ Bristol farm club of the Rookie Classification Appalachian League.

Stats:

FS:

The White Sox system desperately needed a good middle infield prospect or two as the offensively deficient Eduardo Escobar currently ranks as the teams top SS prospect. Tyler Saladino has the potential to become a starting shortstop at the Major League level with a plus glove and an average to above above average bat. In order to reach his potential Tyler will need to start putting the ball into play more consistently, but even if he can’t do this, his defensive ability could be enough to carry him to the Major Leagues as a utility infielder.

Wilson was assigned to Great Falls.

FS:

That didn’t stop him impressing as a freshman though, as Wilson hit .295/.355/.543, displaying great power by knocking out 15 home runs and 11 doubles in 258 AB’s. His power took a slight dip as a sophomore, but his overall line improved to .353/.454/.567 with his K% dropping from 16.3% to 14.5%. He took the summer off after breaking down physically late in the season. Wilson’s production as a junior took a massive drop-off and he suffered a hairline fracture in his wrist just to make things worse. He finished with a line of .269/.388/.426, suffering a further dip in his power output and seeing his K% rise to 19.3%. His park/schedule adjusted line does make for much better reading though at .301/.422/.481.

Gregor:

“No. We are in third place,” Williams said. “You know how I feel about that. I’ll be happier when we get to first place, somewhat happier.”

“I’m certainly more encouraged than the last time we all spoke and got together here,” Williams said. “But this is still a work in progress. Fortunately we are on the upswing right now and I just hope we can continue with the momentum we built up, get excitement back into the city and the stands and get our fans on board with the way we feel about ourselves, and take it from there.”
