Phil Rogers looks on the Sox manager job

Rogers:

Guillen should be in good standing with the White Sox. He is a very good in-game manager and players really don’t mind his running diatribes in the media. He and Jerry Reinsdorf are practically blood brothers. He should be fine but he’s available if Ken Williams decides not to take responsibility for a roster overhaul that cost the organization six pitchers (including Clayton Richard and John Ely) and a ton of cash to add three players having limited impact in Jake Peavy, Alex Rios and Juan Pierre.

Unlike the Cubs, the Sox do not have a manager in waiting in their organization. But Tony La Russa is on a year-to-year basis in St. Louis and said in spring training he’d love to work for Reinsdorf again (to be fair, that discussion was about a post-managing career path). If it’s no longer working for Reinsdorf with Guillen, would he want to clear a path for La Russa?

No argument from me on Juan Pierre being a “limited impact” player. But Alex Rios  and Jake Peavy? How about replacing them with Mark Teahen Phil?

Baseball America on Terry Doyle

UPDATE: A lot more on Terry Doyle here: http://soxbronzetitan.wordpress.com/tag/terry-doyle/

ORIGINAL: From the ‘Man among boys’ section of the 5/14 Prospect Hotsheet:

Terry Doyle, rhp, White Sox.

Your minor league strikeouts leader isn’t Stephen Strasburg, Mike Minor or Julio Teheran. It’s a 2008 37th-round pick out of Boston College. This season, Doyle, 24, is 4-2, 0.96 with 58 strikeouts in 47 innings. Last week he was sensational (14 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 24 Ks), but that’s not that surprising. He has pitched well ever since he became a pro—he was second in the Pioneer League in strikeouts last year—but he’s been treated as an organizational fill-in, spending two seasons in rookie ball despite his age and college experience. Doyle may just be an older pitcher beating up on younger prospects, but he’s pitched well enough to earn the right to prove he can handle competition more his own age.

Brandon Short and his 26-game hitting streak gets a mention too.

Doyle threw 7 innings of 1 BB / 10 K shutout ball yesterday:

Kannapolis
Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Doyle (W, 4-2) 7.0 2 0 0 1 10 0 0.96
Santos, O 1.0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0.00
Johnson, Ga 1.0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1.62

Looking at possible Andruw Jones destinations

MLBTR:

Was a better bargain than Andruw Jones signed this winter? The White Sox added him on a one-year deal worth $500K, and all he’s given them so far is a batting line of .260/.360/.604. … The problem is, this hasn’t allowed the White Sox to move into contention. Thanks to a 14-20 start, combined with Minnesota’s 22-12 beginning, Chicago is already eight games out, with Memorial Day still weeks away. So it may well be that the White Sox can, and should flip Jones to a contending team down the stretch. And that reasonable short-term deal means some of the smaller-market contenders are likely to be in the Jones sweepstakes.

MLBTR lists Washington, Cincinnati, San Diego, Oakland and Seattle as possible destinations.

Fangraphs isn’t confident Andruw will keep up his current level of performance though.
