“I’m very happy with my stuff,” Peavy said after failing to retiring a batter in the fifth and being charged with seven earned runs. “My stuff was as good as it can get. Location was a tough thing. Walking seven guys is unacceptable.”
Peavy said he made some changes in his delivery that enabled him to increase his velocity by a few mph.
“It was what we did discover, it was shocking and it made complete sense,” said Peavy, who has 15 strikeouts and 15 walks in 22 innings. “Like I said, there’s no excuse for walking seven guys in any game. I can’t ever remember walking three or four guys in a start. As far as taking a positive, absolutely.
“To be able to use my lower half and get my arm slot back where it needs to be, we had a lot of swings and misses on fastballs. Later in the game, we may have gave away some pitches.”
