Guillen said rookie Tyler Flowers will be the designed hitter today, but not because Guillen’s waving a white flag just yet. ”The lineup will be mostly right-handed [against Royals lefty starter Dusty Hughes], and I want to give [Scott] Podsednik time off,” he said. But Guillen made it clear before the game he won’t wait much longer to turn the page on the season and turn to more rookies: ”I want to die the right way. They are going to kill me? No, I’m going to kill them first. That’s the way it is. They know how much I love them because I tell them every day, but in the meantime, I have a job to do.”
