What in the world did Kenny see in this wreck and gave him a 4-year deal? I remember looking at his declining ratios (HR, K, BB, K/BB) at the time of the signing and screaming what a bloody mistake that was.

Linebrink has a 6.75 ERA since the All-Star break, but doesn’t attribute his struggles to overwork. Quite the contrary, actually. “In my case, personally, I don’t think it’s a matter of being out there enough,” Linebrink said. “That’s going to happen from time to time. We’ve been getting some great starts out of the starting pitchers. I’ve just got to use the time out there to get back on track. I’ve been a little off here lately.”
So, the fault lies with the starting pitchers having good outings and not giving Brikey many opportunities. That’s stupid. If Linebrink gets, say, twice the opportuniyies he gets now, he’ll multiply his screw-up by 2 too. Maybe more if you consider that when he appears in consecutive days he’s horrible the second time out.
