“Crazier things could happen, but I just don’t see it. I miss my family,” he says of playing into his 40s. The native of St. Charles, Mo., and his wife, Jamie, have a son and a daughter, Braden, 2, and Brooklyn Jayden, 5 months. “When you’re on the road and your kid calls you and says something, you’re like, ‘Damn it, man, I really don’t want to be here. I want to be home,’ ” Buehrle says. “You just realize you’re going to be missing that stuff for however many years I’m going to keep playing.” He doesn’t envision himself signing a long-term contract again, saying he might go with a one- or two-year deal if he decides to continue playing.
