The Sox announced this afternoon that they’ve placed Colon on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 25) due to right elbow inflammation. In turn, they purchased the contract of left-hander Randy Williams from Class AAA Charlotte. Colon was scratched from tonight’s against the Twins and Jose Contreras was tabbed to fill in. The move allows manager Ozzie Guillen to keep Richard in the rotation. Richard won his last start on Sunday, beating Detroit.
