Ozzie’s comments on Freddy Garcia after Freddy’s bullpen session:
“He really impressed me. He was talking a lot of crap the last few days and he backed it up.”
and Don Cooper:
Meanwhile, Freddy Garcia impressed manager Ozzie Guillen and pitching coach Don Cooper during a buillpen session. Garcia will throw another bullpen session Thursday before rejoining a minor league team. Cooper believes that Garcia may need only four or five starts before being major league-ready. “The words that he used, ‘I haven’t felt this good, ‘I have no pain,’ that’s music to my ears,” Cooper said.
UPDATE: More Ozzie:
Freddy Garcia threw a bullpen session Monday and made a great impression. “He threw all his pitches, and I never thought Freddy would be at this level as fast as he is,” manager Ozzie Guillen said. “We’re going to have another session in a couple of days to see how he’s doing.” After that, Garcia is likely headed to Charlotte to log some innings. If the 33-year righty throws with no pain in his shoulder, he could be in the Sox’ rotation by mid or late August.
