With the non-waiver trading deadline one month away, teams are expected to increase their evaluations and discussions.

And even after White Sox general manager Ken Williams said last week he intends to remain a buyer, it won’t stop other teams, such as San Francisco, from scouting Sox players who can help them for their own playoff runs.

The Giants, who currently lead the National League wild-card race, sent one of their top scouts to Cleveland on Monday night to watch right fielder Jermaine Dye.

UPDATE: The SF Chronicle reports that the Giants scout could be looking at Cleveland’s Victor Martinez.

Dye is in the final year of a $22 million contract (his contract has a $12 million mutual option with a $1 million buyout¬† for next year that becomes a player option if he’s traded). He has a limited no-trade clause of 6 teams in the Northeast; one of those team are the Mets (if I remember correctly another team are the Phillies).¬† The Giants are not among the teams in Dye’s no-trade clause.

And while Kenny has said that he doesn’t envision being a seller, he also said that there is a chance he trades for a younger player who will help in the future.
